
Lottery Process
LOTTERY REGISTRATION OPENS SEPTEMBER 1, 2011
LOTTERY and RANDOM DRAWING PROCEDURE for individual age-group participants only*:
- Online registration to enter the lottery will open on September 1, 2011. Registration for the lottery will be available HERE through the official event website. Only one entry per person will be accepted.
- Registration for the lottery will remain open from September 1, 2011 to January 5, 2012.
- There will be two rounds of participant selection from those who registered for the lottery. The first round closes at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on Thursday, September 29. The second and final round closes at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on Thursday, January 5, 2012.
- A maximum of 2,000 participants are allowed in the race. Approximately 1700 are selected through the lottery process.
- The first participant selection drawing will take place on September 30, 2011. Participants will be chosen from the following groups in order:
- Those who have competed 3 or more times (in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon)
- Open random draw from all those remaining
(The drawing is selected at random by computer, however the selection process will ensure selection of at least one male and one female from all 50 states and at least 10% international particpation) - All selected participants will be notified via the email address provided during lottery registration by October 5, 2011. Names will also be posted on the official event website.
- Selected participants will have until Friday, October 28, 2011 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time to complete their registration process and pay all fees. Selection in the lottery does not guarantee your entry; you MUST register and pay your fees in full by the deadline to be considered entered in the race. Anyone selected who has not registered by this deadline will lose their entry spot. Not receiving an email and/or not checking the list on the website is NOT an excuse for missing the race registration deadline.
- Anyone registering for the lottery after September 29 or anyone not selected in the first drawing will be entered into the 2nd participant selection drawing.
- The second participant selection drawing will take place on January 6, 2012. Participants will be chosen at random.
- All selected participants from the 2nd drawing will be notified via the email address provided during lottery registration by January 9. Names will also be posted on the official event website.
- Selected participants will have until Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time to complete their registration process and pay all fees. Selection in the lottery does not guarantee your entry; you MUST register and pay your fees in full by the deadline to be considered entered in the race. Anyone selected who has not registered by this deadline will lose their entry spot. Not receiving an email and/or not checking the list on the website is NOT an excuse for missing the race registration deadline.
- Anyone not selected in the 2nd drawing will be added to a waiting list in sequential order chosen randomly. Waiting list spots will be distributed as necessary until March 30, 2012. Those eligible for waiting list spots will be notified via the email address provided during lottery registration as spots become available. They will have a limited amount of time to respond before the spot is offered to the next person on the waiting list.
*Professionals, Challenged Athletes, Open Relay Teams, and Corporate Challenge Teams will participate in open registration and are not subject to selection through the lottery process.
