RANDOM DRAWING REGISTRATION OPENS DECEMBER 1, 2009

RANDOM DRAWING PROCEDURE for individual age-group participants only*:

  • Registration to enter the lottery will open on December 1, 2009. Registration for the lottery will be available online through the official event website. Only one entry per person will be accepted. Applicants will be screened for eligibility.
  • Registration for the lottery will remain open from December 1, 2009 to January 25, 2010.
  • There will be two rounds of participant selection from those who registered for the lottery.
  • The first participant selection drawing will take place on December 15, 2009. Participants will be chosen from the following groups in order:
    • Those who have competed 5 or more times (in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon)
    • Those who have competed 3 or more times
    • At least one male and one female from all 50 states
    • International applicants
    • Open random draw from all those remaining
  • All selected participants will be notified via the email address provided during lottery registration by December 18. Names will also be posted on the official event website.
  • Selected participants will have until January 8, 2010 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time to complete their registration process and pay all fees. Anyone selected who has not registered by this deadline will lose their entry spot.
  • Anyone registering for the lottery after December 15 or anyone not selected in the first drawing will be entered into the 2nd participant selection drawing.
  • The second participant selection drawing will take place on January 26, 2010. Participants will be chosen at random.
  • All selected participants from the 2nd drawing will be notified via the email address provided during lottery registration by January 29. Names will also be posted on the official event website.
  • Selected participants will have until February 26, 2010 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time to complete their registration process and pay all fees. Anyone selected who has not registered by this deadline will lose their entry spot.
  • Anyone not selected in the 2nd drawing will be added to a waiting list in sequential order chosen randomly. Waiting list spots will be distributed as necessary until April 30, 2010. Those eligible for waiting list spots will be notified via the email address provided during lottery registration as spots become available. They will have 48 hours to respond before the spot is offered to the next person on the waiting list.

*Professionals, Challenged Athletes, Open Relay Teams, and Corporate Challenge Teams may register online before April 10. Professionals, Challenged Athletes and Relay Teams do not have to qualify or enter to be selected in the random drawing.
